Artist Statement
I take photographs at night because I love capturing a side of nature rarely seen as though Im illuminating some brief hidden gesture. What interests me is to take that gesture and to distill it onto paper in its most basic and aesthetically palatable form. When the veil of darkness is down you observe a thing in isolation and isolation is where the observer can imagine. To apprehend a beauty beyond nature but found IN nature is the ultimate goal of my work: to find the miraculous in the common. Nature is so abundant that in our jaded eyes objects cease to be unique entities and become commonplace. However each of my works takes a scene in isolation where an organism can tell you a story of its growth and decay its struggles and mastery. My work stems from a desire to raise that which is trite to exalted.
