Artist Statement
1As an art major at the University of Tennessee I developed an interest in wall art with texture and dimensionality. This interest led to metal fabrication with unique twists. The copper repousse process used in my work was developed over a period of years. I incorporated an old craft form with my variations to develop an art technique unique to my creations. Each original design usually nature-inspired is drawn directly on the copper and then embossed into the copper by hand. Using various hand tools–mostly made by me and working on different surfaces from glass to leather the copper is gradually tooled to raise a three-dimensional image of the design. The picture is chemically oxidized hand- polished and permanently sealed. Each finished piece is unique. Recent awards include Best in Show in the metal category in the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair (MI Guild Fair-Main and Liberty) and second place Metal/Sculpture category Cincinnati Summerfair.
