Artist Statement
My art reflects my nature: vibrant and distinctive. Breaking tradition through respectful exploration my creations draw attention. Underlying themes are visible in some pieces while others are random outcomes of applied curiosity. Working with wood is my passion. Artistic woodturning evolved from my career in custom woodworking. I admire the natural beauty of hardwoods and exotics and enjoy turning wood that is unique to begin with. Segmented woodturning makes use of left-overs from other projects while allowing fascinating combinations of wood species. Unlike customary segmented woodturning with its emphasis is on precise geometric patterns I visualize an overall form then consider different embellishments to highlight any natural characteristics. While I am opening a new trail in some aspects I invite others to share the journey through demonstrations or classes. To help preserve this art form for future generations I have personally hand-planted more than 4000 trees.
