Artist Statement
A diverse ceramics education since 1997 has established an artistic foundation while an engineering background has helped evolve my work. The detailed character of my work is simply a reflection of who I am. This layering of skills and influences has translated into a style that conveys masculinity and grace. In the fall of 2008 I became a self-taught wood turner. Mixed media has always been a welcome dimension to my ceramic work and is occasionally incorporated into wood turnings. Mediums that require concentric spinning to take shape draws focus and grounds me to my work. It is important for me as an artist to develop a unique style that continually evolves with newness. Being true to a style while keeping it innovative is the most challenging yet rewarding aspect of my work. I am driven by a demanding approach that defines my art and provides a deeply gratifying form of self-expression. My wife Grace has been beading some of my pieces since 2009.
