Artist Statement
I draw my designs onto a metal surface and use a hand held plasma cutter or hydro abrasive cutter to cut them. The forms are rolled to achieve form with welded construction. The metal is surfaced with a bench grinder in preparation for my favorite step adding the patina or color to the metal. Steel becomes like aged leather and copper turns wild lime green to turquoise with special acids and heat that are always unique. The green patina on copper with a rust infusion is my new hit and am loving the look. I layer these abstract designs with the various patinas and textures with spacers to give them depth so that each layer has breathing room and can stand apart from the one before it.. These unique wall tiles are also enhanced with leather and clay elements that can be strung riveted fused or welded to the metal layers. A single piece will typically have three layers of metal (brushed stainless steel aged steel and copper) layered with these mixed media elements.
