Artist Statement
The landscape and geology of the western United States has been the primary motif for my pottery for several years. The horizon lines of the mountains the verticality of the canyons of Colorado the shapes and textures of the Utah high desert the power of western rivers and how they affect the land are all reflected in the work. recently I have shifted my observations towards the smaller found objects” that I have encountered. Many of us who spend time in the woods or on the beach are compelled to collect them. That intriguing bit of bone the shell of a snail or that oddly twisted piece of wood these things though small in size have tier own sense of monumentality and presence. this latest series of pottery incorporates the jewelry like textures with the vastness of the western landscape.”
