Artist Statement
My “Metallics” line features intricate symmetrical designs created by carving into the clay with simple, everyday potter’s tools. I have always loved the leather hard stage of pottery, because the clay is responsive enough to reflect subtle shaping techniques yet sturdy enough to accommodate deep relief work. I do not use stamps or molds in my work, nor do I use measuring tools. I create each design at the wheel using the shape of the piece as my inspiration and my eye as the guide. The level of detail reflects how industrious I am feeling that day, as each line, curve, and divot is created one at a time. Carving these pieces slowly and methodically, letting the design evolve with each stroke, is incredibly meditative and enjoyable.
The majority of the pieces in this line are functional and food safe, and most are created with wall-mounting options so they may be displayed when not in use.
I also offer a wide variety of mugs and miniatures in these glazes–affordable treasures.
