Artist Statement
Twenty years of my adult life has been spent living and working in the Hawaiian Islands, as a gallery owner and locally recognized, self-taught, seascape oil painter. After a very welcome opportunity arose, I decided to expand my business into the beautiful wine country of Sonoma, Califormia. Here I was able to bring my technique of light and color into the beautiful vineyards. I enjoyed exploring how the various times of the day or season could change the dynamics of the same subject matter. I like to say took a piece of Hawaiian romance into the vineyards of California.
After a recent move back to the Midwest and Great Lakes region, I was creatively inspired by the movement of sailboats on water and the exciting opportunity to change my palette. I traded my brushes and oil based background to begin exploring vibrant colors on canvas using heavily, textured acrylic paint, palate knife and paint filled syringes.
