Artist Statement
I work with colored stoneware and inlays of porcelain and use a combination of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Throughout the process I am open to opportunities to improvise with materials and techniques to create one-of-a-kind sculpted pottery. My pottery embodies influences that shaped me as a fine artist: the beauty of clays texture and color in its unadorned state the graphic sensibility of printmaking and the unique sculptural forms of unearthed artifacts and shards from ancient cultures and in nature. My work is also informed by concepts found in the art movements of Dada American Regionalism and Pop. Although my pottery is functional the bowl the jug the canister its form is distinctively contemporary organic and personal. I love the creative and physical process of making pottery. Its the most fun Ive ever had making art.
