Artist Statement
My desire to explore my artistic abilities came to me in the midst of a career in academia. I left a full-time position after 20 years to pursue my creative path as an artist – to fulfill my dream to be involved in work that I truly enjoy and work that feeds my soul while bringing beauty to others. My abstract sculptures represent the expressive possibilities of steel, glass and limestone. I have taken these unforgiving elements and managed to meld them into sculptures that represent movement, color and energy.
The sculptures I create incorporate cast, cut, carved, fused and assembled glass which is then joined with cut, shaped and welded steel. The metal surfaces are typically painted in earthy tones or powder-coated in bright, metallic colors that work well both indoors and out. Limestone is shaped, sanded or carved to provide a substantial base for many of my sculptures.
