Artist Statement
I make unique handmade porcelain art tiles inspired by nature, the Arts & Crafts movement and classic children’s illustration. I am interested in making beautiful tiles. I first carve a three dimensional master, from which I make a plaster mold. I hand press each tile and add additional carvings and undercuts, so each tile is unique. After drying and bisque firing the tiles are hand painted with ceramic stains and or glazes. The tiles are then fired again to maturity to vitrify the clay body. I also use the same techniques to make small tiles that can be worn as pendants (with holes) or used as small accent tiles. I frame some of my tiles in quarter sawn oak frames that are handmade for me.
