Artist Statement
As a little girl I was fascinated with the items found on my Grandmother’s dresser, old button boxes, crazy quilts and hand tatted lace. For as long as I can remember I loved and created objects rich in texture, pattern and color. I draw inspiration from the colorful tile work in Spain, the intricate patterns and rich colors of places like India or Morocco and the traditional needle crafts made by women all over the world. I transform vintage designs into contemporary stoneware pieces. Working in a somewhat spontaneous fashion, striving for a non-manicured, organic look I layer impressions taken from vintage lace, buttons and handmade stamps. My pallet is lush and vibrant and possesses a feminine, playful touch that hopes to speak to contemporary sensibilities with bits of nostalgia woven into each piece.
