How would you describe your work?
We handcraft jewelry of innovative, sculptural, contemporary design that span sensuous and organic to linear and geometric, set with exquisite gems of unique color and cut.
What does art mean to you? Why is it important to you?
Art takes everyday observations and translates them into something that creates awe. It connects us to people that share a vision and even if they don’t care for the aesthetic, they are intrigued or moved by it. Art is essential to the human experience. As we grow ever more dependent on devices, it’s very grounding to connect with ideas conceived in someone’s mind, then seeing how those ideas pass through their eyes, hearts, and hands to create tangible art.
What is your creative process? How do you typically approach a new piece of art?
I rarely start with a definitive sketch. If anything, it’s more of a concept. This concept evolves as I sculpt the wax that will ultimately be cast into gold. In sculpting by hand, I feel the wax, and realize more fully how this concept will be finished to my perfection. In creating every step of the process by hand vs computer, I feel I have a stronger emotional tie to the piece because my hands have been in constant contact with it, since the moment I first began creating it.
What or who inspires your work?
My wife Christine inspires my work. While I’m the hands-on artist in our company, her support and input throughout the process guarantees our best possible work. Also, cloud formations, snow drifts, waterfalls, cityscapes… there’s no telling what may trigger a design.
What advice would you have for aspiring artists?
The art show life has been one of the finest life experiences that we could ever have imagined. The art community, be it fellow artists, patrons, and show staff, embrace you, making you feel like you have been adopted into a very exclusive family. You will feel a distinct sense of joy and awe when a patron connects with your work. Provide them with a good experience. It is our sincerest hope that the outdoor art festival concept stands the test of time, with new artists embracing the concept.
