Composed of canvas oil paint and an archive of outdoor experiences my paintings reflect the stories of memorable landscapes using bright bold colors simplistic details and rich contrast. Critical to my technique is the use of layers that allow for the constant development of crisp contrasting elements throughout the painting. To further the sense of intrigue and whimsy I add texture to my canvases prior to painting. Likewise I paint around the edges of my stretched canvas. This gives the impression that the landscape goes on indefinitely allowing the viewer to delve further into the painted retreat. I know a painting is finished when I have completed my landscape story and I feel I can add no more paint. I feel a painting is successful if it can cause people to stop for a moment and escape!
