Painting allows me to actively explore relationships: those of form and color of light and shadow of texture and smooth surfaces. In my studio I am inspired daily by the sun setting beyond acres of wetlands at the back of our propertyand by storms making their way across that same open land. A tactile physical rhythm achieved with the textural application of acrylic paint on the canvas and panels often mimics the dynamic forces at play in wind and weather. My pleasure and intrigue come from simplifying these images so that they hover between the abstract and literal. My intent is to invoke more of a universal memory than a realistic depiction of the objects themselves.
