Artist Statement
Watercolor done wet-in-wet for luminous saturated color with dramatic impact. My technique starts by totally immersing a sheet of 300 lb arches hot pressed paper. While its still glistening I apply dilute washes of color to establish a glow. When the sheen leaves the paper I resume painting wet-in-wet increasing the ratio of pigment to water as the process continues. While risky this method allows the colors to mix & mingle on their own creating exciting radiant combinations. I start out with a plan but feel free to change it & go with the flow responding to what is happening before me on the paper. I strive for dynamic compositions eliminating extraneous detail & emphasizing strong value contrasts of light & shadow to infuse energy. In the final stages the paint reaches the consistency of heavy cream to give me the rich vibrant color I use to express my passion & connect with the viewer creating a feel-good world where they can relax unwindreflectlinger & re-energize!
