Artist Statement
I create colorful loving romantic art that may uplift spirits and bring joy to hearts. I get inspired when I see an incredibly happy child at the beach digging for treasures in the sand the tear in the eye of an old lady holding her great grandchild for the first time or of a common but well visited book store on a charming city street. With commissions I study the essence of my subjects in person or from photos; then produce my impression layered in oils until I achieve my desired very painterly style. After prepping the canvas I draw my images with charcoal then with variations of whites and other neutrals I paint and build my images and place the values before any color is used. I enjoy making the final piece usually more energetic more emotional than perhaps the reality truly is. My collectors say that I capture the spirit and they love the more vibrant colors that I choose. When I can feel the emotions of my subjects then I know I’m where I want to be.
