Artist Statement
Working predominantly in acrylic on canvas I look to nature for inspiration. Painting from nature brings me a sense of peace and calm that is indispensible to a person living in an urban area. Using impressions from real-life as well as photographs I explore small and intimate moments in nature. Birds are perhaps the most notable subjects in my paintings- nestlings awaiting their parents parents in search of food or even solitary birds resting before taking flight. I try to stay true to the soft colors and the transitory feel of a bird in motion. I am also interested in painting natural elements such as tree branches seed pods or wildflowers. There is a challenge in painting these small and intricate forms of revealing the repetition of shape and the internal and external space. I am drawn to the idea of potential new life and renewal contained within.
