Artist Statement
In changing focus from the figure as subject to the body as object I began to see the body in fashion performance and daily life as a canvas to present a facet of a persons identity. I am looking at the personality of the wearer the discomfort awkwardness and impracticality of some high fashion the necessity of the body for presentation and the forms of the costumes themselves. This investigation continues to evolve further into imagery inspired by the actual physical work that is necessary to bring the sculptures into being and my role in it with consideration of my role as a woman. The pursuit again continues with larger figures and mixed media. The found fabricated non-cast dress materials lend themselves to open interpretation with the materials bringing associations of environment culture and discomfort to the sculpture and the viewer that are perhaps unexpected. In trying to convey a message that is honest provocative fun but ultimately relevant
