Artist Statement
My inspiration comes from moments that stir my emotions. It might be the vastness of the ocean a certain slant of light the opening notes of a symphony a coming storm … I try to capture the energy of these feelings the power of hope the rage of courage the passion of joy and put them on my canvas. I choose colors and techniques that represent these emotions. Dark hues for solace and calm. Bold strokes of the pallet knife for courage and daring. Combinations of softly blended colors next to bold strokes of paint create areas of tension and pockets of calm. Using oil paint as my medium I begin with a few large strokes to indicate the shape or atmosphere. I let these strokes indicate the next and the next letting the painting tell me what to do. I become engaged in a conversation with the painting and I pay attention to what has just appeared from the end of my brush or knife. I strive to express the journey.
