Artist Statement
I have worked with figures and faces in somewhat abstract interpretations throughout my creative experiences in ceramic clay, paper mache, plaster, and painting. Currently, individually created miniature clay face, mixed media sculptures transform into Pod People or shadow boxes Hand-formed with the interplay of various textures: beading, metal, wood, natural fibers, palm pods, and found objects–my form of painting. This goes hand-in-hand with the ultimate desire to collect, touch, manipulate, and enjoy the materials around us. It is the fascination of creating individuality and extraordinary end products from something simple. Generally the pieces represent the lighter side of our existence–the need for humor–through their individual expressions and the vibes that an observer feels. I enjoy creating each piece and never really want to stop–it is my indulgence and hobby and the gratification as others share in my experience.
