Artist Statement
My photographic passion is capturing interesting realistic images. I work at photographing the beauty that exists all around us. I often look for interesting patterns in a tree trunk, a curled sprout or droplets of rain on a leaf. These images are close ups focusing on a small part of a scene. I use a macro lens with a shallow depth of field and a tripod. I also enjoy photographing landscapes and animals, again using patterns to emphasize the beauty of nature. I try to capture the catch light in a bird’s eye or the way the wind blows its feathers. This requires longer lenses and a tripod. I strive to capture an accurate description of what nature offers to me as a photographer. When preparing to print a digital image, I may do a crop and make slight adjustments to color, contrast and sharpness to reflect the scene as it was shot. I don’t believe in much manipulation of the image. All photos are printed by me or at my direction. I mat and frame all of my own work.
