Artist Statement
My paintings are totally old school. Idea to pencil or ink sketch to thumbnail sketch to work out proportions to full sized pencil drawing to work out values and shading to a line drawing trace transferred via carbon paper to a gessoed panel. No photography or digital manipulation are used. I take my inspiration from something as simple as a shadow on the side of a garage. Most of my work is made up of a combination of many different locations or designed on the page. Very few images are from an actual place or location. I did a cow for Chicago's Cows on Parade” and it was exhibited on Michigan and Monroe in front of the Art Institute. I am self-taught and studied architecture ion college before computers and CAD (computer aided design). I also work in pen and ink watercolor sculpture in wood metal and stone. I have done prints in stone lithographs serigraphs etchings engravings and woodblock.”
