Artist Statement
My work is Contemporary Batik and watercolor paint on ricepaper. I begin by rendering forms using a tjaunting tool or brush in hot wax. I then alternate the hot wax mixture and watercolor paint until complete. The wax is removed carefully in stages revealing layers of images. My inspiration comes from objects I find in nature and the years I have studied the human form. I find a strong relationship between the figure and nature’s ever changing forms. These relationships allow me the freedom to draw them abstractly incorporating some realism while morphing into an illusion of fantasy. My education as a graphic designer has encouraged great composition and drafting abilities. My intuitive sense of color and my love to paint large spirits my completed works and adds energy and excitement to each individual painting.
