Artist Statement
All work is in supple butter-soft deerskin an amazingly strong leather that can even be washed. Despite the difficulty of working with a material as soft and stretchy as deerskin the artist hand-cuts and professionally executes each of his original innovative designs incorporating semi-precious gemstones snake skins and other reptile skins (none endangered) and skilled hand-work including collage inlay applique braiding and knotting. The artist learned his craft by doing. In the early 1970’s he had the good fortune of owning a custom leather shop adjacent to a rock & roll venue. The client list looked like the who’s who of the 70s music scene. This clientele allowed him the freedom to experiment with a multitude of hides and techniques but the favorite was always deerskin. It is at once soft strong and washable providing great versatility. Although his customers now may not be quite as famous he still tries to make each one feel like a star.
