Artist Statement
Painting is my escape into a prismatic and animated world. It has been an obsession of mine since childhood. I am fascinated with the idea of recreating my dreams using the same play of light contrasts and vivid color that sometimes is dulled by reality. My faith is reflected in my art in the way I see nature and its maker. Earlier Christians who were persecuted would use the symbol of the fish to distinguish friends from foes and mark secret gathering places and tombs. The fish has become the Christian symbol today and defines the reason I use fish in most of my paintings. Being fond of Koi fish with all their brilliant colors I chose them as my subjects. Their animated bodies arrange themselves in ways to form an array of natural creations. I choose a subject and work the fish into the architecture using their natural movements. With acrylic paint I mix the colors on a canvas of wood and it is then framed with a shadow box frame.
