Artist Statement
The rare moment is not the time when there is something worth looking at but the moment we are capable of seeing it.” —- Joseph Wood Krutch The essence of the creative process has little to do with cameras lenses film type or megapixels. It is about how I see: understand my subject matter and lighting compose what elements I include and the natural weather and lighting conditions. The challenge is to see simplicity in complexity distill the image to its most simple elements and compositional structure. My emphasis is the natural world. My sensibilities take me to a style of photography called the “intimate landscape” a phrasing ascribed to the late Eliot Porter. To capture some portion of the scene and let the viewer's mind fill in the area beyond the boundaries of the print creating a work that is timeless not because of where it was taken but where it takes the viewer. Most of my images to date are recorded using medium and large format film. I print all my work.”
