Artist Statement
My parents nurtured my interests in nature and painting at an early age. My mother an artist guided my experiments on canvas. My fathers love of the outdoors as well as Aldo Leopolds Land Ethic influence my art. Painting in oils allows me to keep a diary of my perceptions of the environments Ive experienced. I spend much time outdoors in Wisconsin in my opinion one of the most diverse and beautiful states in the union. Whenever Im outdoors Im actively collecting ideas for paintings. As a representational oil painter I use direct applications of paint while pleine aire painting and then will use layers and glazing when working in the studio. I paint on linen or board. When painting a landscape Im recording the visual experience I had in a specific place at a specific time conveying the emotions I felt with paint.
