Artist Statement
The world of fine art has always aroused my passion and continues to focus my attention on imagination and painterly expression. Trained in painting and printmaking at Rhode Island School Of Design, my inspiration comes from abstract expressionism and beauty of the natural world. Combining abstraction with representation, my art works through suggestion to evoke a sensory experience of nature.
My love of painting is perfectly expressed in monotypes. The monotype process combines freedom of painterly expression with technology and ingenuity of the Renaissance masters. A monotype is a single image that transfers to paper, one time, by use of my etching press. The pigment is forced into the fibers of the paper, resulting in unique surface effects that cannot be achieved by painting directly on paper. Each monotype is unique, authentic and unlike any other medium.
My intention as an artist is to evoke joy, presence, and imagination. The possibilities for expression are endless!
