Artist Statement
I attempt to capture the human spirit at its best: A man aspiring to achieve his dreams a woman flourishing as she pushes herself beyond her limits couples enthralled with each other regardless of all else families united in the dance of life. Inspired by relationships with my family and an awe of creation my sculptures are a fusion of the human form and the natural world. Copper sheets are textured by liquefying the surface with a torch allowing it to pool and melt through in certain places. The pieces are then cooled quickly by dousing them with water. The drastic change in temperature causes bright reds oranges and blacks to naturally emerge from the copper. Some pieces are left with just the oxidization of colors while others have patinas added. Cast bronze figures after having been heated and bent into different poses are then welded to the piece.
