Artist Statement
Attracted by industrial materials I have chosen to work in wire mesh to create a design theme. This contemporary collection features the continuity of a traditional origami rose pattern. The rose has became my jewel; each one placed in a custom pewter setting. Using my metalsmithing skills I craft a variety of settings for the roses. I carve the originals in wax and silver which are then cast in pewter. Connections are soldered surfaces sandblasted and electro-plated creating a variety of finishes. Pieces may be accented with semi-precious stones fresh-water pearls and crystals. I originally came to metalsmithing by the serendipitous route of working as a dental technician. The skills tools and materials utilized in the dental lab are compatible to jewelry making. I apprenticed with a master goldsmith and learned the trade in the studios of several production jewelers. The design and production of small sculpture as adornment has been my passion for over 2 decades.
