Artist Statement

Carving stone is hard work involving noisy tools in a dusty and dirty area. I use grinders diamond blades pneumatic hammers chisels and files. I am a direct stone sculptor which means I carve directly into a block of onyx stone and what I create is inspired by the stones original shape and its colors. I do not make a preliminary model and then copy it: my vision for the finished piece comes to life as I am in process. Before carving I observe it at length trying to see what I should create. Once I have found it I try and carve it with minimal alterations to the rock. I work according to its shape size and flaws. Stone may seem cold but there is a sensory joy one experiences from feeling stone. You will find yourself reaching out to touch to connect with its energy. My work allows one to feel a deeper connection through the sense of touch. I try to create pieces which will seduce your eye stir your senses and entice you to touch.
