Artist Statement
I hand lay each Quiet Oboe in natural and synthetic fibers varying texture and hue. As art can be considered a form of music frozen in time I use the forms the color and feel of the fiber as my vocabulary. As music arrangers vary instruments for their range I vary the diameters from 2 to 5 inches the lengths from 20 to 85. The lemon yellows sing the high notes the deepest violets the low. Even the texture of the pieces contribute to the analogy. I want the velvet of the sax the shimmer of the high hat and the tweedy richness of the muted horn all found in the my work. In solo as a combo or a symphony my goal is for the Quiet Oboes to play well with others including other artwork. I'd prefer these textural cylinders to grace the architecture lending their unique qualities to the space without taking it over. They are intended to bring awareness to the environment not solely to themselves. They are intended to bring pure joy.”
