Artist Statement
I grew up helping my father and grandfather build custom furniture and cabinetry for the grand homes around Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. Flawless functionality exacting craftsmanship and pleasing design were absolute musts. After years of fine furniture making a simple request of a four year old grandchild for an imaginative little fairy door opened a whole new realm of possibilities. The possibility of fairies and elves living among us with the power to spread magic and/or mischief is a fascinating concept. Using the fine woodworking tools and techniques we craft whimsical solid wood fairy doors from local hardwoods. Doors are cut shaped embellished finished decorated and assembled one at a time. Utilizing the natural character and figure of the wood as a guide the doors are individually decorated and embellished using a range of techniques and materials including wood-burning custom blended dyes and use of jewelry grade beads crystals pendants and brass hinges.
