Artist Statement
I earned my BFA in 2004 from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. My desire is to illustrate soft playfulness and unique detail within each form. I incorporate a rustic yet refined character into my work. Working with porcelain aids in achieving the soft elegance I desire. As a child I grew up surrounded by antiques and though I didn’t appreciate it then as an adult I find myself drawn to this very same style and appreciating its unique character and history. As I grow as a potter I notice my work reflecting these vintage styles wanting to showcase these same qualities within my work. As a technique I enjoy the spontaneity of incorporating gestural lines onto my forms. I create these lines using a metal rib tool. When successfully crafted these lines enhance the aesthetic relationship of the form providing each piece a unique voice. I use non-toxic glazes and fire to cone 6 in oxidation making my pottery both food and beverage safe.
