Artist Statement
As a child I watched my grandfather in admiration as he worked metal into beautiful little creations. A reserved man he would sit on his bed for hours soldering tiny pieces of silver with a torch in his hand. The pieces he created were awe-inspiring to me. More than just jewelry they conveyed spiritual meaning and a quiet integrity. With ingrained memories of my grandfather and the practical silversmithing teachings I received from his two brothers I honor the techniques they passed down to me and see them as the embodiment of an ancient art-form delicately refined through generations. Today I merge these traditional Yemenite techniques with contemporary studio practices and my personal vision. I treat each piece of jewelry as a small-scale sculpture and an opportunity to create something precious and enduring in an age of abundant consumption. Through my craft I remember and celebrate the timeless wisdom I've gathered starting with what I witnessed through my grandfather.
