Artist Statement
Sculpture offers me an avenue for the expression of my ideals of life and humanity in general (as opposed to individual or particular ethnic traits or qualities) which I cannot express as eloquently in any other art form or even with language. These ideals are embodied in the inner life and activity which, I hope, my work exudes. I want to capture the tenderness, love, beauty, strength, serenity, empathy, compassion, etc, which are ennobling in humanity.
The large forms and shapes evident in my work are not contrived or preconceived. They are entirely dictated by the demands made by my aesthetic intuition, and are intrinsically and innately tied to my sensibilities of beauty and propriety in sculpture. One is free to see the opulent forms in any light, but there is absolutely no agenda that I have about large people in the literal world. In an artistic and poetic sense, the robust forms are well grounded and structurally sound edifices, capable of housing an abundant inner life.
