Artist Statement
My wearable art clutches are truly a contemporary craft endeavor. Most handbags are made from either fabric or leather rarely both. I am continually inspired by the challenge of creating a unique dialogue between these materials between shapes textures and colors. I revel in the potential of a vegetable tanned cowhide to become a hand-dyed whimsical creation expertly stitched to an endless array of retro to modern upholstery fabric patterns. Take it one step further and play on both color and shape by adding a hand-patinated copper disc a carved and gold-leafed patch of wood or rare up-cycled vintage findings or beads. The result is a truly distinctive combination of both contrast and cohesion. I enjoy the design aspects of my artwork very much but I am also continually challenging myself to maintain the utmost quality of sewing craftsmanship and quality.
